English is Uganda's official and most widely spoken language. It is spoken with varying accents, primarily determined by the speakers native language and, to some extent, the schools they attend or attended. Because of intermarriages, it is the mother tongue of an increasing number of children.

The English spoken in Uganda is closer to British than any other form of English. However, a brand of what might be called "Ugandan English" is developing, especially in spoken communication.
