A district is the main administrative unit in Uganda. Under the country's decentralised system of governance, some powers are devolved to the district. The district is headed by the chairperson of the Local Council V. The council, an elected body, is the policy making organ of the district. Presently, there are 80 districts in Uganda.

The districts are further divided into counties, sub-counties, parishes and villages. Districts may elect to come together to form a regional government.
